Evan Fong was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, to a Chinese father and a Korean mother. From a young age, he exhibited a keen interest in video games and music. Fong attended Richmond Hill High School and later enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in economics. However, his passion for content creation led him to make the bold decision to drop out during his second year to focus entirely on his burgeoning YouTube career.

The Genesis of VanossGaming

On September 15, 2011, Fong launched the VanossGaming YouTube channel. The name "Vanoss" is inspired by VANOS, a variable valve timing system developed by BMW, and was also his father's PlayStation 3 username. Fong's channel quickly gained traction with its montage-style videos featuring humorous moments from games like Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty, and Garry's Mod.
